Benoit Badiashile exit near? Napoli step up Chelsea talks

Chelsea

Benoit Badiashile has caught interest from Italian giants Napoli. The Serie A side wants to become active in the transfer market. They are looking for the French defender to improve their backline. Chelsea are also exploring their salable assets which they can offload in the market.

Napoli are eyeing a move for Chelsea defender Benoit Badiashile

As reported by Get French Football News, Napoli have made Benoit Badiashile one of their most important transfer targets for this summer transfer window. The Chelsea defender is not likely to be in Xabi Alonso’s vision. So, the Blues have set a price tag of €30m on the French centre back. The Premier League side will let him leave Stamford Bridge if an offer of that amount comes in.

The report has also said that along with Napoli, Spanish side Real Sociedad are also monitoring Badiashile’s situation. But they are not in a hurry to sign the defender. Napoli are in pole position and have started to work behind the scenes.

As reported by Yahoo Sports, Napoli are showing such urgency to sign Badiashile because they need a replacement for their centre back Alessandro Buongiorno. The Italian defender had suffered an injury in his right knee meniscus. He underwent successful surgery and will have to out of the pitch for three to four months. Sam Buekema was also not fit and Juan Jesus left after his contract expired.

Previously Napoli enquired for a loan move and then a permanent purchase for around €17.5m. Chelsea had rejected that bid as it was much lower than their €30m valuation. Massimiliano Allegri’s side has also considered West Ham’s Jean-Clair Todibo as another option. Todibo has no interest to play in EFL Championship.

Benoit Badiashile’s future at Chelsea is uncertain

As reported by EPL Index, Benoit Badiashile’s future at Stamford Bridge is not very bright. Chelsea head coach Xabi Alonso doesn’t view him in his plans for the coming season. The Blues already have more than enough players on that position. Mamadou Sarr, Tosin Adarabioyo, Josh Acheampong, Levi Colwill and Wesley Fofana are the names in the squad. New arrival Maxence Lacroix has joined from Crystal Palace and has increased the competition for that position.

Trevoh Chalobah’s position is a bit questionable as Fabrizio Romano reported on X about his links with Como. Chelsea bought Benoit Badiashile from AS Monaco on January 2023. Chelsea fans have no reaction at his departure. His time at the Stamford Bridge was full of injuries which didn’t help him to find the harmony with Premier League football. When he came in London for the first time, expectations were around him but he struggled to fulfill those. The Premier League club needs players who are available and fit in every game.

Author’s Insight

If this deal happens, it will be a win-win situation for both the sides. For any other European side, Badiashile is a defender who will bring top tier experience, ball-playing ability and aerial superiority. For Chelsea, it will be a good opportunity to get some cash and clear out some space from the inflated squad.
