Everton and Bologna apart on valuation for Jonathan Rowe

Everton and Bologna are some way apart on a fee for Jonathan Rowe, according to journalist Sean Lunt of Sports Witness.

Everton are said to be willing to pay £29.9m for the winger, while Bologna are holding out for closer to £34.2m.

Talks between the two clubs were first reported a week ago, with Everton among several Premier League sides, including Manchester United, Chelsea, Aston Villa and Newcastle, credited with interest.

Rowe, 23, joined Bologna from Marseille last summer for around £17m and made an immediate impact in Serie A, scoring three goals and creating five big chances despite starting only 17 league games. He finished the season with eight goals and five assists in all competitions.

Bologna’s position is strengthened by Santiago Castro’s expected departure, which would leave them reluctant to sell another forward without a fee well above what they paid for Rowe twelve months ago.

The winger, formerly of Norwich City, is understood to want a return to the Premier League.

Moyes is said to be a strong admirer of Rowe’s direct running and ability to play across the front line, seeing him as a means of adding pace and creativity to an Everton attack that has looked short of both in pre-season.

Former Everton midfielder Don Hutchison, who covers Serie A, described Rowe as “absolutely electric” going forward but flagged consistency as his biggest weakness.

No agreement is close at this stage, with the two clubs’ valuations still some distance apart.
