Alisson spotted in Brazil ahead of Liverpool pre-season return

Alisson has been enjoying the final part of his summer break in his native Brazil, with the goalkeeper due to return to pre-season imminently.

Liverpool have welcomed back five of their eight World Cup contingent, though Virgil van Dijk and Cody Gakpo returned to the AXA Training Centre instead of joining the squad in the US.

It leaves only Alisson, Alexis Mac Allister and Victor Munoz to report back, with the goalkeeper spotted enjoying the end of his break back in his home country.

On Wednesday evening, he watched former club Internacional’s 1-1 draw with Flamengo with his family, and has since been enjoying games of padel in Porto Alegre, Brazil, alongside his brother, Muriel.

Alisson has been on an extended break after the World Cup, with the Selecao exiting the tournament a month ago.

Andoni Iraola had explained he was due to report back to the AXA alongside Van Dijk and Gakpo, but the 33-year-old is now expected back by the start of next week.

His fitness will be of utmost consideration for the club after he missed 19 games last season, including 10 of the last 11 before he joined up with Brazil’s national side for the World Cup.

A series of hamstring issues have plagued the Reds’ No. 1 in recent years, and there will be a keen desire to help reduce his time on the sidelines in 2026/27.

In his absence, Giorgi Mamardashvili and Freddie Woodman – who recently signed a contract extension – have been training since day one of pre-season, with the trio all to work under new coach Alejandro Rosalen this season.

Liverpool wrap up their three-stop US tour on Sunday evening against Leeds in Chicago, with the squad then returning for three final friendlies before their league opener at Newcastle.
