Xabi Alonso will be pleased with what he has seen from Joao Pedro in Chelsea’s pre-season so far.
Pedro put in another good performance in Chelsea’s latest friendly against Tottenham Hotspur, which comes after his hat-trick versus Western Sydney Wanderers.
The striker was the Blues’ best player in the 2025/26 campaign and is now set to be rewarded for his fine form.

According to The Athletic, Pedro is set to sign a new contract, which will extend his stay at Stamford Bridge.
After interest from Barcelona earlier in the summer, offering Pedro a new deal is one of the best decisions Chelsea have made during this transfer window.
The 24-year-old already had a long-term contract at the club, so a transfer was always unlikely. However, his future at the Bridge now looks even more secure in a boost to Xabi Alonso.
Pedro is one of the best No.9s in the Premier League. Losing him would have been a huge blow for Alonso, but the Brazilian is not going anywhere.
It is only pre-season, but Pedro really has proven what a huge mistake Brazil manager Carlo Ancelotti made by not taking him to the World Cup.
While Pedro will be expected to be Chelsea’s first-choice striker in the upcoming campaign, Danny Welbeck is likely to be his deputy.
The former England international is set to join Chelsea from Brighton & Hove Albion.
