HSV Hamburg striker Patson Daka could be out for revenge this afternoon as his side take on Everton in a pre-season friendly.

Everton past
The 27-year-old recently celebrated a strong HSV debut in the friendly against Heidenheim. Now he’s facing a former enemy in the form of Everton.
The Toffees are in Hamburg today for the ‘Volkspark Festival’, in which their women’s side and men’s sides will face their counterparts from HSV in a friendly double-header.
For Patson Daka, it’s a reunion with his sporting past in England. During his time at Leicester the Zambian striker played against the Blues five times during his time with Foxes. And he has mixed feelings about those experiences.
“I have mixed feelings when I think about Everton. I’ve scored against the Toffees, won against them, drawn, but also lost,” he said.
Relegation memory
But he also has a grievance dating back to 2023. Leicester City were relegated that year on the final day of the season, alongside Leeds and Southampton.
Going into the final day of the campaign, Everton, Leeds and Leicester were all fighting to avoid being in the bottom three. It was the Toffees who won out, with a 1-0 win over Bournemouth ensuring that they avoided the drop.
That was at the expense of Leeds, who lost 4-1 to Tottenham, and Leicester, who had secured a 2-1 win over West Ham. That relegation came just seven years after winning the Premier League and ended a nine year stay in the top flight. It’s something Patson Daka has not forgotten.
“But we were also relegated from the Premier League in 2022 because, unfortunately, Everton didn’t play in our favour,” he added.
“Even so, I still have a few friends there. My former teammate Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall has been playing for the club since last year.”
