The Toffees are readying a formal bid for Manchester United’s academy graduate as David Moyes looks to bolster his attacking options with the promising young marksman.
Everton are reportedly preparing an approach to sign Manchester United striker Ethan Wheatley in the summer transfer window, according to Fabrizio Romano.
At the age of 20, Wheatley is yet to break into the United senior side on a consistent level. Wheatley did make three appearances for United in the Premier League during the 2023/2024 season, but he's yet to feature for them in the top flight since then.
The youngster has been sent out on regular loan spells to gain experience, and he's returned to United this summer ahead of his next potential move.

Everton prepare Man Utd approach
According to Italian journalist Romano, Everton are interested in signing Manchester United striker Wheatley. The Toffees are preparing a proposal to secure his signature with a formal approach.
The 20-year-old striker spent the second half of last season on loan at League One side Bradford City, playing 11 times while failing to find the back of the net. Wheatley spent the first half of the campaign at Northampton Town, where he scored three times in 22 League One appearances.
Wheatley's first loan spell saw him play a handful of games for Walsall in League Two during the 2024/2025 season, while he's been a regular for England at youth level.
The Stockport-born striker has represented England at U17, U18, U19, and U20 level so far, making his debut for the latter back in September.
Wheatley a highly-rated talent
Wheatley has clearly been a highly-rated talent at United, and only signed a new contract with the club back in 2025. The 20-year-old put pen to paper on a three-year deal, keeping him at Old Trafford until 2028.
United also agreed an option for an additional year in his contract, signalling how much they rate the young striker.
It remains to be seen whether they'd be interested in allowing Wheatley to depart on a permanent contract.
Wheatley is a player who was in the academy setup during Nick Cox's time at the club. Cox joined Everton recently, and there's no doubt he will have had a say in a potential move to sign Wheatley.
The United youngster was also named the 'Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year' award at Old Trafford for the 2023/2024 season. That's an award previously won by the likes of Kobbie Mainoo, Marcus Rashford, Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, and former Everton players Phil Neville and Darron Gibson.
