Manchester City lost 3-1 on penalties to Inter Milan after a 1-1 draw in Hong Kong over 90 minutes. Divin Mubama got City's only goal in normal time before Gianluigi Donnarumma saved one spotkick but saw three of his teammates fail to convert theirs.
Enzo Maresca picked almost as strong an XI as he had available for his first game in charge of the team, with Phil Foden captaining a side that included Antoine Semenyo on the wing and Donnarumma in goal. Semenyo was the best player during a first half in which he teed up Mubama to score and could have had another goal himself.
Five City players came on at half-time, with Nico Gonzalez overcoming an injury scare with his knee and Ryan McAidoo a regular threat on the right wing. The game was decided on penalties as despite a bright showing from City in the second half they could not find a winner.

Donnarumma: Made some good saves when he got little protection from his defence. 7
Lewis: Looked happier moving up and into midfield to get on the ball, although he did leave space behind in the first half that Inter exploited. 6
Khusanov: Smashed one pass straight out of play where Maresca was standing but picked things up in the second half. 7
Gvardiol: The most comfortable City defender playing out, albeit he should have done better clearing the ball when Inter scored. 5
Mfuni: Noticeably on the wrong end of one duel in a 45 minutes that was otherwise fine. 6
Kovacic: Still one of the best in the squad for playing progressive passes, he will hope for an injury-free campaign. 6
Reijnders: Some nice play with Kovacic in the middle and a decent effort at goal early on. 6
Foden: Struggled to get on the ball or influence play in the first half, looked brighter in the second half when higher up. 6
Savinho: Took his time to get going but once he started running at defenders he was good off both flanks. 7
Semenyo: City kept turning to him because he kept beating his man - comfortably the best player on the pitch. 8
Mubama: Kept his line well to score the goal, although he also got in the way of a few promising moves. 6
Substitutes
Ait-Nouri (for Mfuni, 46) Some nice runs forward down the left. 7
Reis (for Gvardiol, 46) Hit the bar from a corner and looked assured at the back. 7
Alleyne (for Kovacic, 46) Also went close to nicking a goal for City and there were no dramas after one early scare. 6
Gonzalez (for Reijnders, 46) Looked to take the initiative in the game and drive them forward. 7
McAidoo (for Mubama, 46) Looked bright down the right wing, happy to take players on and a threat when he did - unlucky to hit the post. 8
Sangare (for Semenyo, 69) Some tidy touches and worked well with McAidoo. 6
Echeverri (for Foden, 69) Looked to get on the ball and put a decent corner in. 6
Braithwaite (for Savinho, 78) Settled in at left-back to allow Ait-Nouri to push up. 6
