Hull City 'in talks' over deal to sign Manchester United and Liverpool-linked defender - report

Hull City have been credited with interest in a Liverpool and Manchester United-linked defender

Hull City are reportedly in talks over an ambitious deal to sign Australia international Lucas Herrington.

The 18-year-old enjoyed a strong World Cup with the Socceroos, defying his tender years with mature displays at the back.

He plies his trade in Major League Soccer with Colorado Rapids, who signed the defender from Brisbane Roar earlier this year.

Hull City ‘in talks’ over Lucas Herrington deal

TEAMtalk recently linked with the likes of Barcelona, Liverpool and Manchester United with Herrington, who is being tipped for a future at the elite level.

However, according to reporter James Dodd, Hull are in talks over a deal to sign the gifted young centre-back.

Posting on X, he said: “Understand that Hull City is the Premier League club in talks over the transfer of Socceroo Lucas Herrington.

“Deal not done but in latter stages. On course to be both Australian record transfer fee and Colorado Rapids’ record sale too Game time keen for club choice.”

Herrington would arguably be an exciting coup for Hull, who would be landing a player with potentially significant resale value.

Hull City’s summer transfer business

Hull have made four senior signings since their promotion to the Premier League via the Championship play-offs.

Goalkeeper Jack Butland was the first through the door and has been followed by defender Matt Targett and midfielders Oscar Zambrano and Hidemasa Morita.

The Tigers are hoping to get plenty more business done before their return to the Premier League, which will be marked by a high-profile visit from Manchester United on August 22.

Among those to have been linked with the Tigers are Rayo Vallecano defender Nobel Mendy and FC Augsburg midfielder Mert Kömür. On the outgoings front, Hull have loaned midfielder Nathan Tinsdale to Crawley Town.
