Everton set to sign Premier League winner

**Everton are on the verge of signing Arsenal midfielder Christian Norgaard.**

Norgaard helped Mikel Arteta’s side end a 22-year wait to be crowned Premier League champions, making 20 appearances in all competitions last season.

But the Denmark international is now set to make the move to Hill Dickinson Stadium with the Blues aiming to bolster their engine room this summer.

Idrissa Gueye’s departure has been compounded by James Garner’s likely absence from their opening weekend clash at home to Crystal Palace.

Garner recently underwent surgery on a groin injury picked up during pre-season which will leave David Moyes’ side short on central midfield options.

Summer arrival Hayden Hackney and Merlin Rohl, whose loan move was made permanent, are currently their only available established midfielders.

The Gunners are understood to be holding out for a deal in the region of £7 million for Norgaard in a knockdown price on his £10M arrival from Brentford.

Alongside the 32-year-old, Everton are also pursuing a move for promising Manchester United forward Ethan Wheatley to join the club’s academy ranks.

Technical director Nick Cox is believed to be driving the pursuit of the player after he emerged in the ranks during his own time at the Old Trafford club.
