Everton have reached an agreement in principle to sign Christian Norgaard from Arsenal for a fee in the region of £7million. The 32-year-old Denmark international is expected to undergo a medical next week before completing his move to the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Norgaard joined Arsenal from Brentford last summer for £10million plus potential add-ons. He made 20 appearances in total but featured in only seven Premier League matches during the club’s title-winning campaign. Competition for places from Declan Rice, Martin Zubimendi and others restricted his game time.
The midfielder had been a regular and eventual captain at Brentford across six seasons, making 196 appearances and helping the club win promotion. Everton are targeting a physical presence in the No 6 role following the departure of Idrissa Gueye as a free agent.
Norgaard would become Everton’s fourth signing of the summer after Hayden Hackney, Tyrique George and Merlin Rohl. For Arsenal he would be the second first-team squad player to leave this window, following Leandro Trossard’s move to Besiktas.
