Ife Ibrahim further enhanced his reputation with an impressive display as the Arsenal first-team dispatched of Girona with a 4-1 victory to win the Costa Brava Cup.

Max Dowman, who was deployed on the right wing, was typically impressive as he started the game and set up the opening goal for Kai Havertz.

New signing Christos Tzolis then got on the scoresheet before Dowman found the net himself with a neat finish.

Arnau Martinez temporarily reduced the deficit for Girona early in the second half before Gabriel Jesus made it 4-1 to Arsenal.

Marli Salmon, who is seemingly now part of the first-team squad, came on in the 33rd minute and was extremely composed in possession.

Just after the hour mark a host of academy players entered the fray with Ibrahim, Brayden Clarke, Louie Copley, Josh Ogunnaike, Ismeal Kabia, Ceadach O’Neill and Andre Harriman-Annous all coming on.

They were later joined by Theo Julienne and Demiane Agustien. Reiss Nelson was given the armband as Arsenal ended the game with all ten outfield players on the pitch having represented the club at youth level.

There was much to enjoy about how the youngsters applied themselves in what was a superb experience for all of them.

Copley, a midfielder playing out of position at right-back, demonstrated his impressive reading of the game and made some good interventions before fading a little and being replaced.

Clarke slotted in well at centre-back, while the same can also be said of Ogunnaike at left-back.

Kabia, O’Neill and Harriman-Annous all showed their excellent work rate, with the latter flitting between midfield and attack.

Ibrahim stood out at the base of midfield as he played some perfectly weighted passes and provided the team with a real presence.

Goalkeeper Khari Ranson, meanwhile, was named amongst the substitutes.

It will be intriguing to see which academy players stay with the first-team for Wednesday’s game against Real Betis and beyond.
