Liverpool set massive Cody Gakpo price tag after Tottenham interest
Cody Gakpo’s Liverpool future has emerged as a big talking point during the ongoing summer transfer window.
The Dutchman is tied down at Anfield until 2030 and only signed an extension last season.
However, after the 2025-26 season concluded, Gakpo has been heavily linked with a departure, especially after Arne Slot left the club.
Earlier today, Read Liverpool relayed claims that Gakpo is a leading target for Tottenham this summer.
And now, if reports from England are to be believed, the Reds have named their asking price for the Dutch international.
Liverpool want £72m for Cody Gakpo
According to Anfield Watch, Liverpool have slapped a £72m price tag on Gakpo, using Anthony Gordon’s move to Barcelona as the benchmark.
Recently, attackers have been sold for unbelievable amounts and the Reds were at it themselves with the additions of Florian Wirtz, Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike last year.
In fact, Liverpool are in talks to sign Bradley Barcola in a deal worth more than £100m, which goes to show how inflated the prices are.
From that standpoint, demanding a sizable fee for a player like Gakpo, who is a reliable player for Liverpool as well as the Dutch national team, is an absolute no-brainer.
However, in our opinion, it would be a mistake to offload him. The Reds have already lost Mohamed Salah, so the aim should be to add more players to their attack, not sell someone as reliable as Gakpo, who also manages to stay fit more often than not.
