Mikel Arteta refuses to rule out Arsenal Vinicius Junior move
Mikel Arteta refused to give much away when asked about Arsenal’s interest in Vinicius Junior, but the Gunners boss confirmed that further transfer activity is expected.
The situation has gathered momentum again as uncertainty continues over the Real Madrid winger’s future.
ESPN reports that Arteta laughed and walked away when directly asked when Vinicius would be joining the Premier League champions following Saturday’s 4-1 pre-season win over Girona.
However, the Arsenal manager was considerably more open when discussing the club’s wider transfer plans.
“We are really active, trying to improve and evolve the team,” Arteta said.
He added that Arsenal expect further movement during the coming weeks and insisted the club “won’t sit still” as they look to strengthen his squad before the new season.

Arteta’s reaction comes after another significant development surrounding the Brazil international.
ReadArsenal reported earlier on Saturday that Arsenal’s ownership had approved a potential move for Vinicius, citing information from The Athletic.
That report claimed Andrea Berta had spoken with the player’s representatives and that a move to the Emirates could appeal to Vinicius if he decides against signing a new Real Madrid contract.
ESPN offers slightly different information on contact with the player. A source close to Vinicius told the outlet that there had been no contact with Arsenal, although the Gunners believe they would be well placed should he decide to leave Madrid.
Vinicius has entered the final year of his contract and Real Madrid are reportedly open to selling him this summer if an extension cannot be agreed.
Arsenal have already strengthened their attack with £34million signing Christos Tzolis, who scored against Girona.
Arteta’s comments make clear that their work is not finished. Whether that eventually results in a move for Vinicius remains uncertain, but the Arsenal manager did little to close the door on one of the most ambitious transfers of the summer.
