There is often much focus on creative and attacking youngsters but amid the host of prospects that received an opportunity with the Arsenal first-team against Girona there were also some talented defenders.

Brayden Clarke has been at Arsenal since March 2024 and has continued to make steady progress which has included amassing a vast amount of experience at U21 level.

A tough-tackling defender, Wales youth international Clarke is a candidate for a loan move and he has qualities that should help him succeed in senior football such as his determination and reading of the game.

Ogunnaike, meanwhile, made some important defensive interventions at left-back.

The 18-year-old recently signed his first professional contract and appears to be valued highly by the first-team coaching staff, as shown by the fact that he trained with the senior squad on numerous occasions towards the end of last season.

Ogunnaike can also play as a left-sided centre-back and will be targeting a competitive senior debut at some stage this season.

Both Clarke and Ogunnaike will be aiming to remain with the first-team ahead of the midweek game against Real Betis.
