Liverpool transfer news as details emerge on Cody Gakpo leaving
Liverpool are already short-staffed in attack after Mohamed Salah’s departure and Hugo Ekitike’s injury.
Despite that, in recent weeks, Cody Gakpo has been linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur.
The Reds are in talks to sign Bradley Barcola from PSG and have already drafted in Victor Munoz, but the possibility of losing the Dutchman has emerged.
And now, TEAMtalk have some interesting details on his situation after his agents held talks with Tottenham.
Cody Gakpo open to Tottenham move
Yesterday, we reported on Read Liverpool that the Reds will demand £72m for Gakpo amid interest from the Lilywhites.
And now, according to the aforementioned report, Gakpo is receptive to a move to Tottenham after his agents held talks with the club.
At Anfield, the Dutchman could be relegated to the bench if Barcola comes in. That said, he will still get enough game time as his versatility allows him to cover multiple positions.
Nevertheless, a key takeaway from the report is that Gakpo is seemingly open to a move to Tottenham.
A factor that will influence proceedings, however, is Liverpool’s stance. TEAMtalk’s report explicitly states that the Reds have no intention of selling him this summer and are planning to include him in Andoni Iraola’s squad for the forthcoming season.
Our reading of the situation is that Gakpo appreciates Tottenham’s interest and is tempted by the prospect of being a guaranteed starter. That said, there has been no indication that he will force a transfer, and the Reds’ stance is also telling.
Never say never in football, but we expect Gakpo to remain at Liverpool this summer despite his willingness to make the move to North London.
