‘The only way’ – Fabrizio Romano provides fresh update on Cody Gakpo leaving Liverpool
Over the past week, speculation surrounding Cody Gakpo’s Liverpool future has dominated the back pages.
The Dutch international is tied down at Anfield until 2030 and has been a key player for the club since joining from PSV Eindhoven under Jurgen Klopp.
Gakpo has been linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur, who are on a massive spending spree this summer.
And now, Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on the 27-year-old’s future.
Liverpool not forcing Cody Gakpo out
Speaking on his YouTube channel, the Italian journalist said the Reds are not pushing Gakpo out of the club and will only consider a sale for a huge financial offer.
“Cody Gakpo is a target for Tottenham. They had contacts with the agency of the player,” said Romano.
“Spurs believe he can be the right addition for De Zerbi. It depends on the price. Liverpool are not pushing Gakpo out.
“The only way to open doors is if Tottenham present a really good financial proposal.”
Yesterday, we relayed claims on Read Liverpool that the Reds want £72m for Gakpo this summer.
They are under no pressure to sell despite their pursuit of Bradley Barcola and the Dutchman has a contract until 2030, so unless there is a massive bid, we can’t see Gakpo leaving this summer.
