Arsenal are close to landing the signature of Blackburn Rovers youngster Igor Tyjon, according to journalist Alan Nixon.
The Gunners have held a long-term interest in the Rovers teenager, and they are now edging closer to signing him.
Arsenal are hoping to agree on a deal worth £2 million plus add-ons for the 18-year-old, as per Nixon on his Patreon.
Tyjon was on a scholarship contract until this summer, but Rovers recently extended it by another 12 months.
The Championship side have failed to convince him to sign a professional deal, and he looks poised to leave the club.
Arsenal eyeing Tyjon for reserve squad
The Gunners wanted Tyjon to provide competition to Andre Harriman-Annous upfront for the Under-21s last term.
A deal did not materialise with Rovers last summer, but Arsenal could sign him this time around.
Tyjon is primarily a centre forward, but can also operate as an attacking midfielder or from the left wing.
The youngster contributed six goals and two assists for the Blackburn Under-21s last term. Most of his playing time came from the number 10 position.
His versatility and early potential could be the reasons behind Arsenal’s prolonged pursuit, and Rovers may eventually part ways with their young graduate.
Tyjon has just three senior appearances to his name with Blackburn, and his development has obviously been hampered by continuous transfer speculation.
It remains to be seen how he will fare for the Arsenal Under-21s if he makes the switch.
The 18-year-old needs to prove his credentials in the development squad first and has a long road ahead before he is ready for first-team football at the club.
