Liverpool fans rejoice as two key players return to the XI vs Leeds United
Liverpool are set to take on Leeds United in their third pre-season friendly shortly and their lineup has generated a lot of chatter on social media.
After beating Wrexham and Sunderland in their last two games, Andoni Iraola faces another tough test as they prepare to take on Daniel Farke’s side.
A handful of young players have featured in pre-season as senior players were on holiday after their 2026 FIFA World Cup commitments.
Now, however, two key players have returned to the starting XI: Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak.
Liverpool fans excited to watch Wirtz and Isak
Wirtz endured a lukewarm start to life at Anfield after his high-profile move from Bayer Leverkusen last summer.
However, he came to life during the second half of the campaign and was one of Germany’s better players at the World Cup.
As for Isak, he started slowly and picked up a long-term injury just when he started to deliver in front of goal, which came as a massive blow.
On the bright side, he too enjoyed a decent outing for Sweden at the World Cup and is now back to full fitness.
And Liverpool fans couldn’t contain their excitement when they saw the lineup, as two massive players are now back in the team.

Speaking to the media before the game, Iraola feels the plan was to give Wirtz and Isak at least 45 minutes as they aim to get ready for the new season.
“We want to play them for 45 minutes. They are not fully ready, but it’s their first step.
“We need to get them going as soon as possible.”
Liverpool’s starting XI vs Leeds United: Giorgi Mamardashvili; Jeremie Frimpong, Ifenyi Ndukwe, Luke Chambers, Milos Kerkez; Dominik Szoboszlai, Trey Nyoni; Florian Wirtz, Kieran Morrison, Alexander Isak, Rio Ngumoha.
