**Cody Gakpo could leave Liverpool this summer amid interest from Spurs, but it would leave Andoni Iraola in further need of transfer investment.**
The Spaniard has taken over from Arne Slot after he was sacked at the end of last season, but Iraola is currently not ill-equipped to lead the Reds into the new season.
Having had to say goodbye to Andy Robertson, Mohamed Salah and Ibrahima Konate, Liverpool have made just two new signings this summer, which places major pressure on Iraola.
There is still time for Liverpool to complete the business they need, but as the clock ticks towards the 1 September transfer deadline, the more it will increase worry among fans.

Bailey reports: _“Sources have confirmed to us that Tottenham have once again made enquiries over Gakpo’s availability._
_“Discussions with the player’s representatives have been positive, with Gakpo’s camp receptive to hearing Tottenham’s plans and believing this summer could represent the right moment for him to seriously consider a new challenge._
_“While Gakpo knows he will continue to play an important role under Andoni Iraola at Liverpool, there is a growing acceptance that he may not be viewed as a guaranteed first-choice option over the longer term._
_“Liverpool’s outstanding teenage talent Rio Ngumoha is firmly on course to become the club’s starting left winger, while further attacking reinforcements are also expected._
_“The Dutchman is conscious of what his longer-term role could become and is not entirely convinced that remaining a squad player is the best option at this stage of his career._
_“Tottenham believe they can offer something different.”_
Liverpool cannot afford to sell Gakpo if they are not going to replace him

If Liverpool sell Cody Gakpo and sign Bradley Barcola, this is what their options will look like:

* Alexander Isak
* Hugo Ekitike (long-term injury)
* Rio Ngumoha
* Victor Munoz
* Federico Chiesa
I’m not convinced there is enough depth or experience in these options to mount a serious challenge in any of the competitions Liverpool will compete in next season.
That said, removing Gakpo’s £250,000 per week wages from the wage bill would be a good move. However, not replacing him would be borderline negligible.
