Chelsea were beaten 2-1 by fierce London rivals Tottenham Hotspur in a pre-season friendly in Sydney on Saturday.
Spurs went ahead courtesy of new signing Sandro Tonali and, although Estevao headed the Blues level, the Lilywhites emerged victorious after Richarlison netted in added time.
Roberto De Zerbi’s side had been reduced to ten men shortly after the break when Kevin Danso was sent off, and Chelsea boss Xabi Alonso will expect to see his side improve when they face Italian giants Juventus in their next friendly on Wednesday.
In the meantime, though, one of Chelsea’s young stars looks set for a loan move to a Football League club.
As per Football Insider, League One side Wigan Athletic are leading the race to sign young Chelsea midfielder Reggie Walsh on loan.
The report claims that the Latics are frontrunners to sign the 17-year-old on loan for the upcoming campaign.
Chelsea captain Reece James previously spent time on loan at Wigan
Walsh is a product of Chelsea’s fruitful Cobham academy and was handed his senior debut during a Europa Conference League semi-final first leg against Swedish side Djurgarden in May 2025, before playing he entirety of the second leg as the Blues reached the final.
He made a further two appearances for the west London side last term, but is yet to make a single appearance in the Premier League.
The report suggests that the teenager is highly rated at Chelsea, with those in charge of the club keen to ensure the youngster’s next move allows him to progress.
The midfielder is said to have attracted interest from clubs in the Championship as well as other sides in the third tier, but it appears that Wigan are set to win the race to land the midfielder for the upcoming campaign.
Walsh is under contract at Stamford Bridge until the end of the 2027/28 campaign, but it appears increasingly likely that he will spent the upcoming season on loan at Wigan.
