Fabrizio Romano confirms brilliant news for both Chelsea and Newcastle United
Newcastle United are not the only club that need to strengthen in this summer transfer window. The same can be said for Chelsea as well, who were barely better in the previous season, finishing 10th in the Premier League.
One difference is that the Blues have shown genuine ambition this summer. They have brought in Morgan Rogers, Maxence Lacroix, Danny Welbeck and Marco Palestra so far. And now, it is a left-back they are looking to sign next.
Chelsea sanctioned the exit of Marc Cucurella this summer. They have been linked with a move for Lewis Hall lately as well. Fortunately, it looks like he is not their top target.
In fact, Chelsea are moving forward in their quest to land their top target at left-back, which would make things a lot easier for Newcastle United when it comes to keeping hold of Hall.
Fabrizio Romano hints at Chelsea left-back signing
Fabrizio Romano has hinted that Pep Chavarria could be on his way to Chelsea in the near future, in what is great news for Newcastle United at the same time.
According to Romano, Chelsea have improved their bid for Chavarria as negotiations with Rayo Vallecano are now moving forward. The Italian journalist then followed that up with a hint that the move could be on with a ‘soon’ emoji as well as an hourglass.
Chavarria is a 28-year-old Spanish left-back or wing-back. To be very honest, he is not a household name and the fact that Chelsea are trying to bring him in to replace a World Cup winner is certainly interesting.
It would be safe to assume that most Chelsea fans would prefer to see Hall make a return to Stamford Bridge instead. But it appears that Xabi Alonso has his preference and is being backed by the board.
Chelsea move is good news for Newcastle United
In recent months, we have seen Newcastle United adopt Chelsea’s previous strategy. The Magpies have let genuine quality and experience go, while replacing it with youth and potential.
That did not work out very well for Chelsea though, as they have taken several backward steps over the past four seasons. That is why there has been a clear tweak.
The signings of players like Rogers and Lacroix were enough proof already. Welbeck’s arrival has highlighted it. Jordan Henderson will join soon as well. And now, it looks like Chavarria is set to follow.
Of course, that means one club will drop out of the race to sign Hall from Newcastle United. But one would imagine that Man Utd will continue to monitor him.
