Bad news for Everton as Atletico Madrid weigh up Jack Grealish move
Atletico Madrid are considering a move for Jack Grealish, in what could complicate Everton hopes of bringing the winger back to Merseyside.
Diego Simeone views Grealish as a strong tactical fit at the Wanda Metropolitano, though Atletico have not yet decided whether to make an offer, according to reports.
Grealish spent last season on loan at Everton, scoring twice and providing six assists as David Moyes’ side pushed for a European finish. The loan ended on 30 June and he has since returned to Manchester City, where he is not seen as part of Enzo Maresca’s plans.
Everton are keen on taking him again, and see a second loan as a low-risk option. Aston Villa, his boyhood club, are also considering a move.
Grealish joined City from Villa for a British record £100m in 2021. He has two years left on his contract, and City are believed to want to move him on permanently rather than extend the loan arrangement again.
Clubs in Saudi Arabia and the MLS have also shown interest, and either route could offer financial terms Everton would struggle to match.
Everton’s preference remains a loan. But with Atletico now in the picture — and Grealish out of contract at City in 2027, giving Simeone’s side room to negotiate — Moyes may find himself competing with suitors both his club and Grealish himself would find hard to turn down.
