**Journalist Fabrizio Romano has provided a key update on Cody Gakpo’s Liverpool future, as Tottenham continue to be strongly linked with a move for him.**
The Dutchman may well be leaving Anfield this summer after three-and-a-half years there, with journalist Graeme Bailey [discussing his future](https://live4liverpool.com/liverpool-in-talks-to-sell-cody-gakpo-but-not-replacing-him-would-be-negligence/) over the weekend:
_“Sources have confirmed to us that Tottenham have once again made enquiries over Gakpo’s availability._ _Discussions with the player’s representatives have been positive, with Gakpo’s camp receptive to hearing Tottenham’s plans and believing this summer could represent the right moment for him to seriously consider a new challenge._
_“While Gakpo knows he will continue to play an important role under Andoni Iraola at Liverpool, there is a growing acceptance that he may not be viewed as a guaranteed first-choice option over the longer term._ _Liverpool’s outstanding teenage talent Rio Ngumoha is firmly on course to become the club’s starting left winger, while further attacking reinforcements are also expected.”_
Now, Romano has taken to [_X_](https://x.com/FabrizioRomano/status/2084174930753544345?s=20) to drop a new Monday morning claim on Gakpo, reiterating Bailey’s words and also saying the situation is now at a “key” point:
_“Tottenham plan to step up their efforts to try sign Cody Gakpo as talks will enter into key stages soon. Gakpo, option in addition to Savinho who remains another top target. Deal depends on LFCintentions/price as Gakpo’s not on exit list.”_
**Do Liverpool have enough depth without Cody Gakpo?**

Opinion is likely to be split among Liverpool fans about Gakpo potentially leaving, with some considering him a good squad player and others happy to see him move on.
The 27-year-old is an effective figure when he wants to be, but can blow hot and cold, and there is a definite sense in accepting an offer for him at this point in his career.
But Liverpool must be certain that they have enough wide depth without Gakpo, especially as Mohamed Salah has also departed, with Victor Munoz and Rio Ngumoha good options on the left wing.
At least one more winger must arrive, though, namely Bradley Barcola, and a couple of new faces in that area wouldn’t go amiss if the Netherlands international joins Spurs.
Ultimately, it would be no bad thing if Gakpo stayed at Liverpool, but he feels like an expendable figure whose value is only likely to dip from this point on.
