Liverpool won’t make a breakthrough in talks with Paris Saint-Germain for Bradley Barcola this weekend, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano said that negotiations are ongoing, but fans expecting an imminent “update” on developments will be left disappointed:
“It’s important to understand the next steps, so the official bid and also the financial side, because Liverpool are not paying 170million euros, I can tell you this.”
“So, they need to find a reasonable price, and the conversation will continue. Liverpool are talking to Paris Saint-Germain. I think there will be no update this weekend, so you can relax, Liverpool fans. We will see how the conversations continue, but for sure, Liverpool are working on Barcola.”
PSG’s pursuit of Godts is significant
Romano has also revealed that the European champions have started negotiations to sign Mika Godts from Ajax. The Belgian is ostensibly a left winger, and there is no doubt that he is being lined up as a potential replacement for Barcola.
If they do agree a fee for Godts, it suggests they will ultimately green light Barcola’s departure from the Parc des Princes before the transfer window closes at the beginning of next month.
Could Arsenal still spoil Liverpool’s plans?
The Gunners have been linked with Barcola in recent months, but their current focus is Real Madrid’s Vinicius Jr.
The Brazilian and Real are believed to be holding talks about his future over the next few days, and if he does decide to stay at the Bernabeu, Arsenal may then enter the race for Barcola. For that reason, Sporting director Richard Hughes may not want negotiations with PSG to stretch out for too long, or they could face a challenge from their Premier League rivals.
