Chelsea have completed several signings this summer and are still working on strengthening Xabi Alonso’s squad.
The Premier League side sold Marc Cucurella to Real Madrid in June and have identified a few targets to replace him.
This includes Rayo Vallecano’s Pep Chavarría, who already agreed on personal terms with Chelsea in July. However, the Blues weren’t able to reach a quick agreement despite making multiple bids.
Their decision to spend £117m [€137.8m] on Morgan Rogers reportedly convinced the La Liga side to stand firm with their demand.
Fullback edging closer towards Chelsea move
Marca reported on Sunday that the west London club and Rayo Vallecano have agreed a €25m plus bonuses deal.
This makes the left-back their club-record sale. The two clubs are finalising the last details of the operation.
Pep Chavarría has a €50m release clause in a contract that expires in 2030. However, he’ll be sold for half the price.
That’s according to Monday’s edition of Sport, who state Chelsea and the Spanish club are sorting out the final details of the operation.
Chelsea to announce signing soon
The Catalan fullback is already in the English capital, to carry out medical tests with the Blues.
Another Catalan newspaper, Mundo Deportivo, states Rayo Vallecano are close to finalising Pep Chavarría’s sale to Chelsea for €25m.
They also state the 28-year-old has already travelled to London to join Chelsea.
Both Sport and Mundo expect Xabi Alonso’s side to announce the signing in the ‘coming hours’.
Chavarría will replace his compatriot, Marc Cucurella, at Stamford Bridge. Alonso is likely to favour Chavarría ahead of Jorrel Hato as his first choice left-back.
