Newcastle United star Bruno Guimaraes is reportedly on his way to link up with his teammates at their pre-season training base. The update comes amid continued rumours that Arsenal are looking to sign the Brazil international this summer.

Guimaraes has been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal this summer, and recent days have seen the speculation intensify with a transfer becoming increasingly likely.

Chronicle Live have reported that Guimaraes is currently travelling to Spain to reunite with his Newcastle teammates and meet his new manager, Matthias Jaissle, at their pre-season training base in La Manga.

The report claims that Guimaraes had an agreement in place with Newcastle that he would leave Brazil on Sunday to take a flight and rejoin his teammates in Spain.

Guimaraes is understood to have complied with all the requests made of him by Newcastle, despite claims to the contrary.

Guimaraes has been on his summer break for the last few weeks after featuring for Brazil at the World Cup in North America, where he helped his country reach the last-16 of the tournament.

Reports have speculated in recent days that Arsenal were close to agreeing a deal to sign Guimaraes, with a £77million fee being mentioned for the 28-year-old.

There were even reports that Arsenal had already put a day on the calendar this week for Guimaraes to undergo a medical and move to the Emirates Stadium.

The Brazil international’s contract at St James’ Park runs until the summer of 2028, and Guimaraes will now be expected to report back for pre-season with Newcastle in the next 24 hours.

The Brazilian’s future has become even more uncertain over the last few days, particularly after the departure of Eddie Howe as Newcastle manager

Howe left his role at St James’ Park last week, with reports suggesting that the 48-year-old was under the impression that Guimaraes would end up leaving Newcastle to complete a transfer to Arsenal, having expressed his desire to make the move following Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon's exits.

Arsenal have identified midfield as an area of the squad they wish to strengthen this summer as they prepare for their Premier League title defence, and it remains to be seen what the future holds for Guimaraes upon his return to Newcastle duties.

The Magpies face Valencia in a friendly on Saturday before pre-season tests against Everton, Bayer Leverkusen and Strasbourg ahead of the new season.
