‘Premier League proven’ – Liverpool urged to sign £80m Andoni Iraola favourite

Liverpool have signed just two players this summer and are running out of time to add to their squad before the new Premier League season starts.

Their defence looks wafer-thin due to injuries and it’s essentially the same midfield that Jurgen Klopp left behind in 2024, while in attack, Mohamed Salah has gone and Hugo Ekitike is out for the foreseeable future.

Liverpool haven’t been linked with too many midfielders, but Vladimir Smicer feels that is an area of concern for the Reds.

And the ex-Liverpool man has urged Andoni Iraola to make a move for Alex Scott, who he knows quite well.

Smicer urges Liverpool to sign Alex Scott

Scott has been linked with a move to Liverpool, and a report from Metro confirms that he is valued at around £80m. The same report also mentions interest from Manchester United, Chelsea and Tottenham, so it won’t be an easy signing to make.

Smicer, however, feels the 22-year-old would be the perfect addition to a Liverpool midfield that is in desperate need of fresh legs.

“I think you can expect Andoni Iraola would like to take Alex Scott because he knows what he can do,” he told Casinostugan.

“To be honest, in midfield we need a bit more spark with people who are fighting but are clever going forward, turning quickly with the ball and finding strikers.

“Of course, we expect a lot from Wirtz to do this, but Andoni Iraola knows Alex Scott. If the price is right and he sees the possibility to strengthen the team, why not?

“Curtis Jones is linked with a few moves, and if he leaves we need midfielders. We don’t know what’s happening with Alexis Mac Allister; he had a bit of a weak season and was not at the same level.

“Gravenberch had a good start but then it was not the best. Only Szoboszlai was a top player in midfield for the whole season.

🚨❌ Alex Scott and his camp informed Bournemouth about decision to turn down second proposal over new deal.

Bournemouth insist to keep the player and open to include a release clause into new contract but no agreement yet.

“In midfield you need competition, and Scott can be a great asset because he’s only 22 and is playing regularly for the England youth teams.

“He’s a good prospect and Premier League proven. These things are important. I don’t know if he would love to play for Liverpool, but not many players would turn them down.

“He’s got a good chance now because Andoni Iraola is the new manager. If he likes him, I think we can find the money.”

We can’t disagree with Smicer, as if Scott is available and willing to join, he would add a lot of direct running and energy to the Reds’ pre-existing options.
