**Trent Alexander-Arnold leaving Liverpool for Real Madrid will never sit well with the Anfield faithful.**
After winning the Premier League under Arne Slot, the boyhood Scouser opted to run his contract down and move to the Spanish capital for free.
Players are free to do as they please with their careers, but the standards are always different for local lads.
Alexander-Arnold’s first season at Real Madrid was lukewarm at best as he struggled with form and injuries, which led to his omission from the England squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
And now, talkSPORT pundit Angelina Kelly, who is a scouser herself, believes Liverpool should consider bringing him back to the club.
With Conor Bradley struggling with injuries and Jeremie Frimpong failing to impress as a traditional right back, Liverpool surely have an issue to address in that position.
Alexander-Arnold, or should we say Trent after his move to Madrid, meanwhile, deputised for Dani Carvajal last season and is set to share right-back duties with Denzel Dumfries.
His move to Real Madrid has emerged as a bit of a lose-lose-lose for all parties involved, so Kelly feels Liverpool must explore the possibility of getting him back.
“I know what it’s like for a player to, in your opinion, betray the club – especially one of your own, especially being a Liverpudlian. I get it,” Kelly stated via [GOAL](https://www.goal.com/en/lists/liverpool-urged-explore-controversial-premier-league-return-real-madrid-defender-trent-alexander-arnold/blt3d1f5dcb3c363695).
“When Real Madrid come calling, it is hard to say no – we have to be honest with that – and he’s made the move and it hasn’t really worked out.
“And you look at Liverpool and you think do they need a new right-back? I mean, Frimpong didn’t look great last season – I think he’s probably better playing further forward – Bradley injured… I think maybe they should cut their losses and just explore the Trent situation.”
“I’m not saying you’ve got to sign him immediately – let’s just explore this. Because Real Madrid have signed another right-back in Denzel Dumfries- that is not good news for Trent. So, why can’t everyone just take some ownership…take a bit of accountability and we can all come back together and be happy? I think that there is a way back, and surely there’s one Liverpool fan listening that would have him back – I can’t be on my own here.”
From a sporting standpoint, this isn’t the worst idea in the world. However, after ditching his boyhood club once, will the Anfield faithful ever accept Alexander-Arnold if he were to return?
