Kai Havertz has hailed new Arsenal signing Christos Tzolis as a “top player” following the Gunners’ pre-season victory over Girona, with the Germany international impressed by the winger’s early impact during the club’s preparations for the new campaign.
Havertz was full of praise for Tzolis after the friendly in Spain, where the summer arrival continued to settle into Mikel Arteta’s squad ahead of the Premier League season.
Tzolis, who joined ARSENAL earlier in the transfer window after impressing in European football, is viewed as one of the club’s most exciting additions. The Greek international has quickly caught the attention of teammates with his technical ability, direct running and confidence in possession, and reports suggest those qualities were on display again against Girona.
Havertz has welcomed the winger’s arrival, describing him as a player capable of making an immediate contribution to Arsenal’s attacking options.
The friendly formed another important part of Arsenal’s pre-season programme as Arteta continues to integrate new signings and build fitness ahead of the opening weeks of the campaign.
The manager has repeatedly stressed the importance of squad depth, particularly with the club preparing to challenge on multiple fronts, including the Premier League and UEFA Champions League.
Asked for his first impressions of Tzolis, Arsenal title winner Havertz told the club’s official website: ‘Amazing. I think you saw his quality from the first minute.
‘I mean, I saw it already a couple of years ago when I saw him playing in Germany. He’s a top guy and a top player, we’re all very glad to have him here.’
Discussing ARSENAL’s pre-season friendly more generally, Havertz added: ‘I think it was a good win. You saw already the connections we had on the pitch.
‘It was a good test for us against a good team and I think we played strong. We need to continue like that now. Now is a new season, new standards and we need to do more to achieve our goals again.
‘Of course, we had a good year last year but we want more trophies to make the fans happy and that’s what we’re here for.’
For Havertz, the positive assessment reflects growing optimism within the Arsenal camp as preparations continue for the new season. The Germany international enjoyed an influential campaign last term and is expected to play a leading role again as Arteta looks to guide the club to major honours.
