Fabrizio Romano slammed for premature ‘here we go’ for Liverpool transfer target
In recent years, Fabrizio Romano has emerged as the main man for football transfers and ‘here we go’ has become his catchphrase of sorts.
In fact, the Italian football journalist is one of the most influential personalities on X, generating more impressions than anyone else on the platform.
Now, Romano doesn’t manually go and bid for players, nor does he oversee negotiations. He has his contacts within the game and has exclusively broken some of the biggest transfer stories over the years.
However, it appears as if he has found himself in a bit of a pickle over the Yan Diomande saga.
Marcel Schafer calls out Fabrizio Romano over Yan Diomande transfer
Earlier in the summer, we wrote on Read Liverpool that the Reds want Diomande, who was seen as the heir to Mohamed Salah’s throne.
However, PSG entered the race for his signature and the Ivorian made it very clear to Liverpool and his other suitors at the time that he prefers a move to the French capital.
In yet another twist. Real Madrid entered the race to sign Diomande after their unsuccessful pursuit of Bayern Munich’s Michael Olise. And after the Spanish giants formalised their pursuit, a lot of journalists across the planet started covering the transfer.
Romano reported as early as July 27th that Diomande to Real Madrid was a ‘here we go’ and that the Ivorian would sign for the club within a week.

However, that hasn’t been the case and Diomande is still training with Leipzig, with a deal no closer to completion.
At the time, a handful of journalists across the planet called out Romano for jumping the gun, but he stood his ground and claimed the deal was actually done.
Now, however, we have heard it from the horse’s mouth, as RB Leipzig Managing Director Marcel Schafer has called Romano out for claiming the deal was done when, in reality, that isn’t the case.
“It’s clear that some so-called transfer experts reported a few days ago that the deal was done or gave it the ‘here we go.’ That’s simply not the case. We’re not at that stage yet,” said Schafer via Sky Germany.

This isn’t Liverpool’s problem anymore as the Reds are out of the race to sign Diomande. And while he is clearly a talented player, between his wavering mind and the whole fiasco involving his agents, it seems like a problem the Reds can do without.
As for Romano, it’s impossible to get every transfer claim right as there are way too many moving parts. However, looking at all the facts in this one, he jumped the gun with Diomande and that was kind of obvious at the time, too.
The transfer window is something else, that’s for sure…
