Newcastle United transfers: Bruno Guimaraes has arrived at the La Manga training camp in Spain.
Newcastle United captain Bruno Guimaraes has arrived at La Manga after a delayed return and a rejected transfer bid from Arsenal.
Guimaraes was given an extended break following his World Cup exploits with Brazil and is yet to join up to train with his Newcastle teammates this summer. It comes with the backdrop of intense transfer interest from Premier League champions Arsenal, who finally launched a formal bid for the player on Monday.
That bid was promptly rejected by Newcastle, but the two clubs remain in talks over a transfer for the 28-year-old.

Although it was previously suggested that Guimaraes would join up with the squad in Newcastle on Friday and then Sunday, Newcastle insist the player’s travel plans were pre-agreed and are content that the player has not done anything to cause a delay or force through a move to Arsenal.
Guimaraes has met up with his teammates and new Newcastle head coach Matthias Jaissle, but whether he remains with the squad in time for the friendly match at Valencia on Saturday is another matter. Arsenal are expected to return with an improved bid for the midfielder, who wants to leave Newcastle.

The Gunners are thought to be confident of striking a deal with Newcastle now they have finally formally entered talks with the club. Terms on the player's side are already verbally agreed.
Guimaraes’ return to training at Newcastle has been delayed after he reached the last-16 with Brazil at the World Cup. Dan Burn is also on extended leave having helped England finish third at the tournament.
