Trevoh Chalobah is on the verge of leaving Chelsea to join Cesc Fabregas’ Como, with the two sides eventually agreeing on a fee for the England defender.

Chelsea have made nine signings this summer, four since Xabi Alonso’s arrival and five that were agreed before the Blues. More signings are expected, with Pep Chavarria and Jordan Henderson set to arrive.

Valentin Barco is believed to have cost £34m, taking spending north of £300m and Chelsea need to sell players to balance the books and fund future moves in the market, possibly goalkeeper Diogo Costa.

After selling Marc Cucurella, Andrey Santos, Tyrique George and Jimmy-Jay Morgan for more than £120m, and a £43m obligation for Alejandro Garnacho, Chelsea are now set to sanction Trevoh Chalobah’s exit.

According to Nizaar Kinsella, among others, Como are paying an initial £25.7m to sign the England World Cup star. A further £5.1m more in add-ons will be paid to Chelsea, should Chalobah meet them at Como.

It sees Chalobah end his near 20-year stint at Chelsea. With Levi Colwill fit and Maxence Lacroix signed, Chalobah has fallen down the pecking order, and the defender has chosen to leave the club for Como.

The news emerged on Monday afternoon, and since then, Chelsea supporters have reacted on social media. Many believe Chelsea have got a good deal in eventually receiving more than £30m for him.

One Chelsea fan posted that the Blues “got good money for him”, while another believes Chelsea have got a “good deal” for the defender. One even thinks Chelsea have “scammed Como” with the figure.

The reaction continued to come in. One said it’s a “good move for all”, while “incredible business but damn this hurts”, was a post from another Blues supporter. Many are happy with the transfer fee.

Chalobah is likely to be the first of several centre-back exits

The signing of Lacroix has taken Chelsea’s centre-back options to 10. But Xabi Alonso has said he only wants four or five to choose from when the Premier League season starts away at Nottingham Forest.

Colwill and Lacroix will be first choice, while reports suggest Tosin Adarabioyo is set to remain to give Chelsea leadership. Josh Acheampong is considered one of seven untouchables at Chelsea this summer.

But the rest see their futures under the microscope. Benoit Badiashile is set for Napoli, while Mamadou Sarr, Wesley Fofana, Aaron Anselmino, Axel Disasi and obviously, Chalobah, could all leave Chelsea.

If Chelsea are to accomplish Alonso’s claims, then plenty will have to go. Chalobah is just the tip of the iceberg, with four or five more exits expected among Chelsea’s plethora of centre-back departures.
