Genoa 2026-27 home kit pays tribute to legendary win over Liverpool

Genoa have officially unveiled their home kit for the 2026/27 season, drawing inspiration from the 35th anniversary of their famous victory over Liverpool at Anfield.

The Grifone launched the jersey with a special video titled ‘You’ll Never Run Alone’, a play on Liverpool’s iconic anthem, You’ll Never Walk Alone.

A club statement read: “The new Genoa CFC 2026/27 Home Jersey was born from the desire to reinterpret some of the most iconic aesthetic codes of the 1990s, transforming them into a contemporary language capable of combining sentimental heritage and innovation.

“The inspiration takes shape on the 35th anniversary of the historic feat at Anfield, when Genoa became the first Italian team to conquer Liverpool’s ground in an international competition, one of the most memorable pages in the history of Italy’s oldest football club.”

Designed by Kombat, the kit campaign reunited several members of the team that made history in 1992, including Tomas Skuhravy, Mario Bortolazzi, Armando Ferroni, Vincenzo Torrente and Gennaro Ruotolo.

Genoa’s 2-1 victory at Anfield in March 1992 made them the first Italian club to beat Liverpool on their home ground, sealing a 4-1 aggregate triumph to book their place in the UEFA Cup semi-finals.

Sadly, two key figures from that memorable side – captain Gianluca Signorini and defender Andrea Fortunato – have since passed away, but both are honoured throughout the campaign.

Carlos Aguilera scored both goals at Anfield, with the launch video featuring the original match commentary from the late Bruno Pizzul.

To celebrate the anniversary, Genoa reunited five icons from that historic squad – Bortolazzi, Ruotolo, Skuhravy, Torrente and Ferroni – for a campaign created by No Panic Agency and photographed by Andrea Venturini.

The imagery celebrates one of the greatest nights in the club’s history and highlights the enduring legacy of that generation.

The campaign also pays tribute to the late Signorini, who passed away in 2002. The inspirational captain was at the heart of the side that conquered Anfield, and his legacy remains central to Genoa’s identity.

The 2026/27 home kit serves as a fitting tribute to both Signorini and the team that achieved one of the club’s most iconic European victories.
