New Newcastle United prospect Kyran Thompson dropped a flashy social media video after his move from Arsenal was confirmed. The 16-year-old has become the latest player to arrive at St. James' Park.
The Gunners had been desperate to convince him to sign scholarship terms to keep him in north London, while Tottenham Hotspur were also believed to be interested in him. He chose to snub both London heavyweights for black and white instead, which is a huge boost for the Magpies.
The summer has been dominated by Arsenal's aggressive pursuit to sign Bruno Guimaraes, so the Magpies signing one of their most talented prospects will put a smile on many faces affiliated with Newcastle. Thompson took to social media himself to confirm the move by dropping an eye-catching video on Instagram.
Confirming the news from his side, he uploaded a slick video of himself arriving at the Magpies training ground on his way to signing his first contract with Newcastle. In the video, which was produced by his agency Truth Sports, he is pictured wearing the Magpies shirt as numerous cameras snapped pictures of him with his family.
He is also seen shaking hands with numerous backroom chiefs at the club on visits to the training ground and the academy set-up. At one stage in the video, a silhouette of his body is visible as smoke is projected into the air behind him, like a boxer's entrance.
"Grateful to sign for Newcastle United," he wrote in a short and sweet Instagram caption. "Ready to get to work," before also uploading a farewell post for Arsenal, where he uploaded a graphic featuring many different pictures of him at the club alongside the caption: "Thank you for everything."
Thompson had caught Mikel Arteta's eye with his performances for the north Londoners' youth teams. He even had the opportunity to train with the senior squad, such was Arteta's curiosity about how he would fare against the first team.
Nevertheless, these opportunities were not enough to convince him to remain in the capital. Arsenal has plucked him from West Ham United's academy two years ago. Arsenal handed him an opportunity to play for the U21s in a draw against Southampton in November.
Before that, he had mainly featured in the U18s, where he scored three goals and contributed two assists in 27 U18 Premier League appearances. He also boasts four international caps for the England U17s.

He scored a goal in a 5-2 friendly victory over the USA at that age level in November 2025. Now he will have his focus set on becoming a hero with the Toon.
At present, it's currently unclear as to what the plan will be for the teenager. Mathias Jaissle is yet to be officially announced as Newcastle boss, despite the club agreeing to pay £9.5m in compensation to Saudi Arabian side Al-Ahli.
