Arsenal want another £8.5m to sell 26yo midfielder to German club

Hamburg face an uphill battle to sign Arsenal midfielder Fabio Vieira this summer, according to German outlet BILD.

The Portuguese had a productive loan season with Hamburg last term, scoring seven goals and providing six assists in 31 appearances.

He had a rocky start with a couple of red cards in quick succession, but went on to play a prominent role for the Bundesliga outfit.

Hamburg had the option to sign him permanently for £18.9 million, but the club could not afford the sum despite avoiding relegation.

It is now revealed that they are willing to pay £6.9-7.7m for Vieira, but Arsenal continue to insist on a package worth £15.4m.

BILD highlight a difference of £8.5m (lowest figure) and add that Hamburg are unlikely to sign Vieira, barring a big discount.

Vieira has been out of Arsenal’s plans for the past two seasons, but he has still impressed in his temporary stints at Porto and Hamburg.

The 26-year-old made 11 goal contributions for Porto in 2024/25 and fared much better at Hamburg with 13 goal involvements last term.

Vieira starred on the big stage with goals against Bayern Munich, RB Leipzig and Eintracht Frankfurt, and has certainly enhanced his reputation.

Hamburg are determined to re-sign him, but they have a limited budget and seem reluctant to spend more than £7.7m on his services.

In our view, Arsenal should not accept such a lowly offer despite Vieira’s evident desire to continue his career with the German side.

Despite entering the last year of his contract, Vieira is in the prime phase of his career, and Arsenal should hold firm on their valuation.

A Premier League club could easily afford the reported £15.4m price tag.

In our view, Fulham could be a possible destination for Vieira after Harry Wilson’s free transfer to Leeds United earlier this summer.

Wilson had a fine 2025/26 season with 11 goals and eight assists, and the Cottagers could do with a versatile forward like Vieira.
