Trevoh Chalobah is leaving Stamford Bridge. Fabrizio Romano confirmed on Monday that Como have reached a verbal agreement with Chelsea to sign the 27-year-old centre-back, with a club-to-club deal in place at a fixed fee of €30 million, up to €6 million in performance-related add-ons, and a sell-on clause retained by Chelsea. Chalobah is expected to travel to Italy for his medical as early as Wednesday evening or Thursday morning, per Sky Sport Italia.

The move ends an association with Chelsea that stretches back to childhood. Chalobah joined the club’s academy at the age of eight and spent three seasons on loan at Ipswich Town, Huddersfield Town and Lorient before making his Premier League debut against Crystal Palace in August 2021, scoring on that occasion. He made 151 appearances for the club in total, contributing eight goals and three assists. Two years remained on his contract, making this summer a natural point of exit, and Chalobah’s own desire to test himself in Serie A made the situation straightforward once Como formalised their interest.
The Como connection is not accidental. Cesc Fabregas, who manages the Lombardy club and was at Chelsea during Chalobah’s formative years at Stamford Bridge, was the driving force behind the pursuit. Como finished fourth in Serie A last season to qualify for the Champions League for the first time in the club’s history, making this an attractive destination for a player at Chalobah’s stage of his career.
Inter Milan had been in the running but withdrew their interest, clearing the path for Como. Chelsea, under Xabi Alonso, had already signed Crystal Palace centre-back Maxence Lacroix for £52 million this summer, leaving Chalobah surplus to requirements in a back line that already includes Levi Colwill, Wesley Fofana and Tosin Adarabioyo among others. The €30 million fixed fee represents pure profit on an academy product.
