Some Chelsea fans are still a little bit sceptical about the signings of Jordan Henderson and Danny Welbeck.

On Monday, Chelsea confirmed the arrival of Henderson on a free transfer, which comes after the announcement of Welbeck’s transfer from Brighton & Hove Albion.

With both players now in their mid-30s, it is understandable that not everyone is convinced. But that is exactly what this young and inexperienced Chelsea side need.

In fact, another truly ready-made player would not hurt, and one individual at one of the Blues’ Premier League rivals could be perfect for them.

Why Chelsea should consider Emiliano Martinez move

Right now, Chelsea should be thinking about signing another Aston Villa player following the purchase of Morgan Rogers: Emiliano Martinez.

Despite having Robert Sanchez and Mike Penders, the Club World Cup holders still appear to be open to bringing in a new goalkeeper this summer.

It has been claimed that Chelsea are in talks to sign Diogo Costa from Porto. The Portuguese is constantly linked with a move to Stamford Bridge, but Chelsea are yet to agree a deal with Porto to sign him.

With that in mind, if they need an alternative, Martinez should be at the top of their list. At 33 and with 228 Premier League appearances to his name, the Argentine ticks the experience box.

Most importantly, though, he is simply a very good goalkeeper. In fact, Martinez is easily one of the best No.1s in the Premier League.

He is a great shot-stopper, commanding in the air and excellent at saving penalties. The Argentina international would be an upgrade on Sanchez and give Chelsea a better chance of qualifying for the Champions League.

Compared to the Blues’ current No.1, Martinez does not make as many mistakes.

Chelsea and Villa have an excellent relationship, with Alejandro Garnacho joining the latter on loan from the former after Rogers’ transfer. Chelsea should make good use of their relationship with Villa by signing Martinez.
