Liverpool in two sets of transfer talks: One new signing and one major exit

**Liverpool’s transfer situation remains shrouded in doubt as they look to sign new players and shift current members of the squad viewed as surplus to requirements.**

The Andoni Iraola era is underway, and after a 4-2 defeat to Leeds in the third pre-season friendly of the summer, much of what needs to be changed is coming to light.

Arne Slot’s second season in charge left a lot to be desired, and more poignantly, it caused a lot of damage to how the players act in certain scenarios.

Much of this will be undone in training as Iraola gets his message across, but plenty needs to be done in the transfer window to give the Spaniard the tools he needs to accomplish his goals.

Liverpool in contact again with Inter over sale of Curtis Jones

---------------------------------------------------------------

[DaveOCKOP](https://www.daveockop.com/transfer-news/exclusive-inter-milan-make-direct-contact-to-liverpool-over-curtis-jones/) reports that Liverpool are now in direct contact with Inter Milan over a move to send Jones to Italy.

The report reads: _“Inter Milan are not giving up on their chase for Curtis Jones easily this summer, and have reignited their pursuit for the 25-year-old after a few weeks of inactivity on that front._

_“Their first concrete summer proposal came in at just £17.3 million, before a second improved bid of £21.7 million (around €25m) was also knocked back in June, with Liverpool’s asking price sitting far higher at €40m._

_“Inter Milan have now made direct contact with the Anfield club to once again try and bring Jones to the San Siro.”_

Liverpool continue positive talks with PSG over Bradley Barcola

---------------------------------------------------------------

DaveOCKOP also add that positive talks continue with PSG to bring Barcola to Anfield, but time will reveal how that pans out.

The report continues: _“Meanwhile, we bought you the news  – also last week – that Liverpool had made an opening bid to PSG for Bradley Barcola. The fee offered by the Reds was  in the region £100M of plus various add-ons tied to Premier League and Champions League successes the club may achieve._

_“Talks remain ongoing with PSG as Liverpool look to find an agreement, but all the signs are looking positive for a successful conclusion._

_“The reigning European champions are working towards the signing of Maghnes Akliouche of AS Monaco, and they are likely wanting to finish their own business first before sanctioning an exit for Barcola.”_

When progress is made on Jones’ future, it will finally reveal midfield plans

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

When Liverpool finally conclude Jones’ future, it should reveal the direction they plan to head in regarding Liverpool’s midfield, which is a particularly key area of Andoni Iraola’s setup.

As we saw under Jurgen Klopp, a high-pressing team needs a tight and aggressive core in midfield, which they currently lack.

Alexis Mac Allister seems set to remain at Liverpool even though there has been a lot of speculation over what his future will look like, but once we know what is happening with Jones, I believe the rest will sort itself out.

It’s also possible that Liverpool need the cash from a Jones sale to sign a new midfielder after the extensive outlay the club committed to last summer to sign Hugo Ekitike, Florian Wirtz, Milos Kerkez, Jeremie Frimpong, Alexander Isak and Giorgi Mamardashvili.
