As it stands, Liverpool insist Cody Gakpo is not for sale this summer, but the winger continues to attract wider interest after contact from Tottenham.
Gakpo’s representatives appear to be busy exploring the market, with Tottenham already among the clubs to have registered their interest in a deal.
The Athletic‘s Gregg Evans reports that they are one of “several clubs” who admire the Dutchman, despite Liverpool’s stance that they do not intend to sell.
Whether that stance is genuine will be open to interpretation, given a ball-park price tag has already been laid out for Gakpo.
“Liverpool have no intention of selling, but would judge his value relative to other deals this summer, including Elliot Anderson’s move to Man City and Morgan Rogers’ transfer to Chelsea,” writes Evans’ colleague Seb Stafford-Bloor.

Rogers (£117m) and Anderson (£116m) are the two most expensive players so far this summer, with their transfer fees seen as inflating the market.
This is a step up from valuations reported earlier in the summer, with Gakpo previously touted for a move worth upwards of £60 million while Anthony Gordon’s £69.3 million move to Barcelona was used as a yardstick.
It is further maintained that Liverpool are “eager to add to their attacking strength rather than to reduce it” and that Andoni Iraola “has not had a chance to work with Gakpo yet.”

That would suggest that, if Liverpool were to sell, they would first need to source a replacement and Iraola would be consulted on any exit.
Liverpool are already light in attacking options despite encouraging performances from Rio Ngumoha, Lewis Koumas and Kieran Morrison in pre-season, with the club yet to bring in a successor to Mohamed Salah.
Paris Saint-Germain‘s Bradley Barcola is their leading target and talks are ongoing over a deal which the club hope to strike for around £100 million.
But PSG’s stance is similar to Liverpool’s on Gakpo: they will only sell for the right price and that will be measured against the fees paid for Rogers and Anderson.
The expectation is that other pieces will need to be moved before any breakthrough is made when it comes to Barcola, with PSG hoping to bring in both Monaco’s Maghnes Akliouche and Ajax’s Mika Godts.
Tottenham head coach Roberto De Zerbi has already promised another “bomba” signing this summer and Gakpo is chief among their attacking targets.
The Athletic‘s Elias Burke reports that De Zerbi was not referring to an expected deal for Man City‘s Savinho and that it “relates to another major attacking addition.”
