West Ham have agreed a deal to sign centre-back Axel Disasi “in principle”, according to Chelsea insider Simon Phillips.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Phillips said that while the 28-year-old could make the move to the London Stadium, he is yet to give the final green light as he waits for “better offers”:
“Chelsea and West Ham have agreed terms in principle for a deal there, [a] permanent deal for Disasi to go to West Ham. Disasi has verbally agreed personal terms with West Ham – that’s all ready to go.”
“The personal terms include a buyout clause, which basically means a club can come in and buy Disasi for a certain fee if West Ham don’t get promoted back to the Premier League at the end of next season.”
“So, he’s trying to protect himself there, but it’s not done yet because Disasi has basically said he just wants to wait a couple of weeks, or a week at least, because he is speaking to three other clubs and he wants to see if their proposals are serious and if they’re going to come in properly. One club is a Premier League club and two from Italy. So yeah, Disasi to West Ham is ready to go, but he just wants to see if he gets any better offers.”
Disasi is set to receive a better offer
Not long after Phillips made these remarks, trusted RMC Sport reporter Fabrice Hawkins confirmed that Crystal Palace are “set to submit an offer” for the Frenchman.
The Eagles have identified Disasi as the priority target to replace Maxence Lacroix, who has already moved in the other direction to Stamford Bridge.
Who could West Ham sign instead if the move collapses?
Insider ExWHUEmployee has stated that Cardiff City’s Dylan Lawlor remains the “prime” target, but the Bluebirds are not willing sellers.
Moves for several other centre-backs have also been explored, but head coach Nuno Espirito Santo will be keen to strengthen the middle of defence as soon as possible. The Irons start their campaign against Portsmouth in the Carabao Cup on August 8th.
