Chelsea have continued their huge summer recruitment drive with the signing of midfielder Jordan Henderson on a free transfer.
The Blues announced the arrival of Henderson on Monday, after the midfielder mutually terminated his contract with fellow west London side Brentford.
Henderson is the latest major summer arrival at Stamford Bridge, following the likes of Morgan Rogers, Danny Welbeck, Geovany Quenda and Marco Palestra.
The England international – who was part of Thomas Tuchel’s squad for the World Cup in North America this summer – joined Brentford last summer and made 34 appearances for the Bees in all competitions last term.
After graduating from the academy of boyhood club Sunderland, Henderson joined Liverpool back in 2011 and enjoyed a hugely successful 12-year spell at Anfield.
Henderson played more than 490 times during his spell with Liverpool
In total the midfielder made 492 appearances for the Reds, as well as winning eight trophies including the Champions League, Premier League and FA Cup.
In 2023, the Englishman made a somewhat controversial move to Saudi Pro League side Al-Ettifaq, but he lasted just six months in the Middle East before joining Dutch giants Ajax.
The ex-Sunderland man played 57 times during his spell in Amsterdam, before returning to Engalnd to join Brentford in 2025.
Chelsea boss Xabi Alonso will hope that Henderson – along with fellow new signing Welbeck – will add much-needed experience to a squad that has been the youngest in the Premier League over the past two seasons.
While it is unlikely that Henderson will be a regular starter in Alonso’s side, the England international will likely add experience and cover for the likes of Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo in the heart of Chelsea’s midfield next term.
Henderson has signed a two-year contract with the Blues that will run until the end of the 2027/28 campaign.
