Norgaard set for Everton medical today as move nears completion

Christian Norgaard is due to undergo his Everton medical today, with the move from Arsenal on course to be finalised this week.

Everton agreed a £7m fee in principle with Arsenal last week for the Denmark international, who arrives as Idrissa Gana Gueye’s replacement in central midfield. Once the medical is completed, Norgaard will become David Moyes’ fourth summer signing, following Merlin Rohl, Hayden Hackney and Tyrique George through the door at the Hill Dickinson.

Norgaard, 32, joined Arsenal from Brentford for around £10m last summer but made just 1,040 minutes of Premier League football across the season, picking up a title winner’s medal largely from the bench. He was left out of Arsenal’s squad for their pre-season friendly against Girona at the weekend, a decision consistent with a move being close to done.

The former Brentford captain spent six seasons and nearly 200 appearances at the club before his switch to the Emirates, and brings a level of experience Everton have lacked in midfield since Gueye’s exit as a free agent.

With the arrival of Christian Norgaard close to being confirmed, attention at Hill Dickinson turns back to right-back, where Celtic’s Alistair Johnston remains Everton’s clearest target.
