There is a pattern at Chelsea at the moment – the fans spend all season bemoaning their disastrous goalkeeper situation and beg for summer signings, then when the window actually comes around they are easily distracted and forget how killer it is to not have a good first choice stopper.

“I said it so many times, Robert Sanchez is not that guy that can win us trophies. I’m sure everybody knows that. I can’t keep repeating myself here every time, every season, week in, week out. I’m sure Xabi Alonso knows that. The club knows that.
“Why can’t we rectify that? We are building a solid team right now. We’re bringing in players that can help improve the squad. The one place that every Chelsea fan is crying out for, not just me, is the goalkeeper position.
It’s an interesting question – why are the sporting directors so ruthless in every other position, but clinging to the sunk cost fallacy in goal?
