Former Chelsea defender William Gallas has claimed it is only a matter of time before Cole Palmer makes a sensational move to Manchester United, suggesting the England international’s reported affection for the Old Trafford club could eventually influence his future.
Speaking about Palmer’s long-term prospects, Gallas said he does not expect an immediate departure from Stamford Bridge but believes a transfer to United is “inevitable” at some stage in the midfielder’s career. The former France international argued that personal allegiances can often play a significant role in a player’s decision-making, even after establishing themselves elsewhere.
Palmer has become Chelsea’s standout performer since arriving from Manchester City, establishing himself as one of the Premier League’s most influential attacking players. Despite Chelsea enduring an inconsistent campaign, the 24-year-old has remained central to the club’s plans and continues to be viewed as one of the foundations for their long-term rebuild.
The latest comments from Gallas have inevitably fuelled fresh speculation surrounding Palmer’s future, although there has been no indication from Chelsea that they are willing to entertain offers for one of their prized assets.
Palmer remains under a long-term contract, placing the London club in a strong negotiating position should interest emerge from rival clubs: ‘I don’t think Cole Palmer will go right now. I don’t think it’s time to go right now,’ Gallas told iPredicta.
‘He will definitely go to Manchester United in the future if he’s a big fan, if he’s got a dream to play for Man United, he will definitely go there, but right now I don’t think so.
‘I think he needs to have one more big season as he did two years ago, before he got his injury problem, then he might move.’
Chelsea’s new manager Xabi Alonso has publicly underlined Palmer’s importance to his project ahead of the new Premier League season. Alonso recently spoke of his excitement about building his team around Palmer, particularly following the arrival of Morgan Rogers, expressing confidence that the pair can form one of the league’s most effective attacking partnerships.
