Cody Gakpo’s injury record could prove to be a major boost for Tottenham as transfer links around the Dutch forward continue to intensify.

Tottenham Hotspur are in the market for forward additions, according to head coach Roberto De Zerbi.

The Spurs boss has also revealed that a transfer bomba could well be expected before the summer transfer window closes.

Speaking about Tottenham and their transfer links, he said: “In the transfer market, when I want one player, I become like a shark, no chance to say no! The transfer market, it is not finished for sure, but we completed 60 per cent of our project in the transfer market. Now we have another bomba!”

The Italian then confirmed the new arrival would be an attacker and, when asked whether the deal was close, he responded: “I hope, but it is not finished for sure.”

Cody Gakpo’s injury record could serve as a boost to Tottenham

Since those comments from the Tottenham boss, Spurs have been linked with a handful of forwards.

Cody Gakpo is one whose links to Tottenham have increased in the last few hours. Spurs are believed to be looking to intensify their efforts to sign the Liverpool man.

Gakpo himself is said to be open to a Spurs move. The wide player is sure to add to Tottenham’s attacking output, having managed double digits for goal involvements in the last three seasons.

His injury record will also be music to the ears of Spurs fans, as Gakpo has an impressive fitness record. Since his move to the Premier League, the Dutchman has missed just 12 games for the Merseyside club.

So far in his career, the most games he has missed due to injuries is 13, coming back in the 2020/21 season while with PSV.

Why Gakpo’s fitness record could benefit Spurs’ injury-hit attack

That should help Tottenham given their injury record in the last few seasons. The forward line is one area that has been severely hit.

At the moment, Mohammed Kudus, James Maddison, Dejan Kulusevski, Xavi Simons and Wilson Odobert are all nursing knocks.

These knocks are not short-term, with all of these players having spent over three months sidelined in the last year.

Tottenham need a wide forward who can stay fit for most of the season, and Gakpo’s fitness history shows he can just about manage that.
