Liverpool are yet to table an official bid for Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola for a simple reason, with conversations ongoing with the French club.
Barcola is Liverpool’s No. 1 target in the final month of the transfer window, as they seek to strengthen their attack following Mo Salah‘s exit.
But despite their interest in the 23-year-old being well-documented there is still no formal offer from those at Anfield.
Sky Sports‘ Mark McAdam has explained that there is currently “no point” in tabling a bid around the £100 million mark Liverpool value Barcola at.
“There’s no point slinging in an offer if they don’t believe that they’re close to getting a deal done,” he said on The Transfer Show.

“If PSG want £145 million, then what’s the point of putting in an offer for £100 million? It’s going to get rejected, isn’t it?
“Therefore, they have to have some sensible conversations where they can get it down a bit from £145 million because they’re never going to pay that.
“We know Bradley Barcola doesn’t really see a future at PSG and he’s open to a potential move, and Liverpool would be a brilliant destination for him.”
Liverpool are understandably reluctant to come anywhere near PSG’s current valuation of £145 million, for a player who has made it clear he will not sign an extension to a contract which expires in 2028.

PSG consider Chelsea‘s £117 million deal for Morgan Rogers and Man City‘s £116 million signing of Elliot Anderson as reference points in negotiations, while Liverpool also paid £116 million for Florian Wirtz a year ago.
But there remains a significant distance between Liverpool’s valuation and PSG’s current asking price, with the expectation being that this will drop in time and a compromise can be reached.
Deals for Monaco’s Maghnes Akliouche and Ajax’s Mika Godts are yet to be completed. and PSG will want to ensure their squad is well-stocked before allowing Barcola to leave to avoid strengthening the hand of other selling clubs.
McAdam’s explanation is straightforward and demonstrates the early negotiation process which often goes on behind the scenes.
Those conversations typically involve intermediaries rather than officials from the clubs themselves, with a wider group gauging not only interest but also the finances required to strike a deal.
Liverpool may rightly see there being “no point” in offering the £100 million package they are readying, perhaps more so given the way in which their pursuit of RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande broke down.

An offer in the region of €100 million was turned down by Leipzig earlier in the summer before Diomande made clear his preference to move elsewhere – albeit first indicating he would joined PSG before pivoting to Real Madrid.
The optics around Liverpool’s efforts to sign Diomande could have damaged their standing in the market and a more reserved approach when it comes to Barcola is understandable.
