Chelsea are weighing up piling more misery on Newcastle United in their dire summer transfer window by rivalling them for the signing of Giorgio Scalvini.
Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali have already left St. James’ Park alongside their manager, Eddie Howe, and Bruno Guimaraes and Lewis Hall are also linked with exits too.
Newcastle have already missed out on a number of signings too, similar to 12 months ago when Chelsea hijacked a move to sign Joao Pedro.

Chelsea interested in hijacking Newcastle deal for Giorgio Scalvini
Their latest target to address the defence is Giorgio Scalvini, with it being stated in Italy that his value is around £40m.
However, Simon Phillips has stated that Chelsea have made some checks on the centre-back, potentially even being in contact with the player’s agent.

He said on the SPTC Podcast: “I’ve heard from two other sources in fact that Chelsea have looked at different names this window. And the most recent one that I’ve heard is Giorgio Scalvini from Atalanta.
“He’s a name that’s given to me over the weekend by two sources. Chelsea have just made some checks on him. One of those sources he even suggested that they’ve made some agent contact.”
The Blues have already added Maxence Lacroix to their pool of centre-backs, but with the expected departure of Trevoh Chalobah to Como, another signing cannot be discounted.

Who is Giorgio Scalvini?
Scalvini is a 22-year-old centre-back who is currently a regular at the heart of the Atalanta defence, playing 30 games last season.
He suffered from a variety of injuries in the previous campaign, which ruled him out of Chelsea’s 2-1 defeat against them in the Champions League last season.
Standing at 6ft 4in, Scalvini would bring more of the height and physicality that Chelsea have been looking to bring to their first team squad this summer.
With Axel Disasi, Benoit Badiashile, Tosin Adarabioyo and Josh Acheampong’s futures by no means secure, there is still plenty of time for change at the back this summer at Chelsea.
