If a report from France is true, Liverpool might not stand a chance of signing Bradley Barcola this summer.
The summer transfer window, which seemed very promising when it began with Jeremy Jacquet and Victor Munoz signed from Rennes and Osasuna for a collective £94.6m, is now looking a touch concerning.
There is just over three weeks until Premier League Deadline Day, and there are very few concrete reports covering Liverpool’s next transfer moves aside from confirmed talks for Barcola.
The Frenchman’s 33 goals and 28 assists in the last two seasons underline what a fabulous player he is, but reports suggest he may be too expensive for Liverpool to sign if PSG stick to their lofty valuation of the 23-year-old.
Reports from France claim PSG are sticking to €160m valuation of Bradley Barcola
According to a report from Le Parisien, Paris Saint-Germain have informed Liverpool that it will cost at least €160m (£137.5m) to sign Barcola this summer.
There is a chance that this price can be brought down as the Frenchman has just two years left on his contract and has expressed a desire to move to Liverpool, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Italian journalist reported on YouTube that new talks with PSG are set for this week.
He said: “Next week, new contacts prepared between Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain for Bradley Barcola,” he said.
“It’s not a surprise if you follow the channel, one of the biggest exclusive of the summer, when all people say that Barcola was untouchable for Paris Saint-Germain. I was coming here and telling you, Liverpool are there for Barcola. Liverpool will try for Barcola. Now it’s time to make it happen on club side, because the player Barcola wants to go to Liverpool.
“Barcola is more than open to joining Liverpool project. Now it’s on club to club. The conversations will continue next week.”
Hopefully it’s just media posturing and Liverpool can reach an agreement with PSG
The transfer game is as much about being direct as it is about the subliminal messaging through media mouthpieces. Liverpool are one of the best in the business when it comes to issuing briefings through trusted journalists, so it should not come as a surprise that PSG will do the same with France-based publications.
One thing is certain: Liverpool will not pay £137.5m to sign a player with two years left on his contract, who has shown a willingness to leave and isn’t even the starting player in his position.
Barcole is fantastic and is good value for money at around £100m, but every £5m above that affects the value of this signing. Liverpool are also the sort of club to walk away from a bad deal, but hopefully it won’t come to that.
