Following Mykhailo Mudryk’s return to football, Coventry City have been amongst the clubs linked with signing the Chelsea man this summer, and supporters are optimistic about the potential reunion with Frank Lampard.
Mudryk and his Chelsea teammates were delighted when his suspension was overturned and he was free to return to first team action again, after last featuring in November 2024.
The Ukraine international has travelled out to Hong Kong alongside new signing Danny Welbeck for the next leg of the pre-season tour, where he could make his first appearance under Xabi Alonso.

A lack of match fitness is going to be apparent though, and a move away, either on loan or permanently, could be the best port of call for his career, with Coventry interested in a deal.
Supporters took to TalkingPoints to discuss the prospect of Mudryk joining up with Lampard again at the newly-promoted side, and were positive about the impact he could have in the Midlands.

One user said: “Yeah I like this. He’ll take some time to get up to match fitness of course but if he reaches his top level, Coventry’s chances of staying up double. Lampard has a great track record at developing young players too.
Another added: “Definitely a risk, but could be a genius move if it comes off. I would say there are probably more upsides Mudryk who needs a fresh start!”
A third stated: “Could be blockbuster, could be a disaster. Risk worth taking as a newly promoted side I think.”
Finally, one user said: “Interesting move, might be what he needs. Wonder if he would be ready in time to make his debut v Arsenal, the team he turned down.”

Lampard is a big fan of Mudryk
While the two worked together in a largely unsuccessful period for Chelsea, Mudryk’s quality had shone through to the club legend when he was back in charge in 2023.
He said at the time: “He’s a very good finisher and I know we haven’t seen that but you have to come back and say that this young boy has moved into the Premier League and it’s different.”
Lampard has worked wonders with players given to him by Chelsea before. He can take credit for developing Mason Mount and Fikayo Tomori into first team stars at Stamford Bridge.
It remains to be seen if he gets the chance to do the same with Mudryk, who is no doubt hungrier than ever to make it to the top level after nearly two years on the sidelines.
