Here on The Chelsea Chronicle, we’ve started a bit of a debate about Chelsea’s squad depth!

The Blues have made some very good signings for their starting XI this summer, including Morgan Rogers and Maxence Lacroix.

The club have also brought in Jordan Henderson and Danny Welbeck, who are definitely adequate squad players.

However, while Chelsea’s starting XI does look stronger, not everyone is convinced with the squad’s overall depth.

Chelsea fans don’t want to see Tosin Adarabioyo in cup team

Clearly, there are still some concerns about the defence. We recently put together a potential starting XI for Chelsea’s cup games in the upcoming season, which included Tosin Adarabioyo and Wesley Fofana.

The feeling among a lot of Chelsea fans, though, is that Adarabioyo should not even be starting in Carabao Cup and FA Cup fixtures. Brutal!

In response to our XI, one Chelsea fan on TalkingPoints said: “Anyone but Tosin and Wes. As long as we’ve got our senior players on the bench like Levi or Maxence.”

Another said: “No Tosin, thank you very much.”

Another Chelsea fan posted: “Perfect second XI but Tosin is the problem a little.”

One TalkingPoints user said: “I don’t mind it in the first few rounds. Would obviously need to upgrade Tosin & Henderson later on.”

Evidently, Adarabioyo is not the most popular player at Chelsea right now, and he has done very little to convince the fan base during pre-season.

In the Blues’ 2-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur, Adarabioyo’s defending was very questionable before Richarlison’s winner.

Still, deeming the central defender unworthy of even playing in the Carabao Cup and FA Cup is quite harsh. Adarabioyo is certainly capable of doing a job, perhaps up until Chelsea meet one of the top sides.

Between now and the end of the transfer window, though, Chelsea need to offload some of their centre-halves.

Xabi Alonso only wants five centre-backs maximum, with Lacroix, Levi Colwill and Wesley Fofana nailed on to stay.

Fofana’s wages will make it hard for Chelsea to move him on this summer.

Josh Acheampong is also thought to be untouchable, so Adarabioyo is definitely one candidate to leave. Chelsea fans, then, may get their wish.
